“Beverly-everly”……….Entry for September 20, 2007

OUR beautiful sister Beverly would have been 49 years old today. Some of us called her Beverly-everly…with all the different brother-sister…..sister-sister…brother-brother combinations that we can have……we all have our special combinations……one of mine was George-Beverly-everly. We had a very special relationship that went back very deep. I always wondered why she liked me so much…..or did she just make everyone feel that way? We always had special songs, sayings and memories together. Once, she wanted to take me to Nathan Hale school for show and tell.

I will never ever forget the time Barb called me at 2oclock in the morning one night and told me “It is time.”
“Yes, I know it is time Barb….the time is two o’ freakin clock in the morning….that’s what time it is!”
No, George, it is time for Beverly.
Oh.

Oh my God.

And my drive from Brick to Scotch Plains that early next morning was a blurr.
And when we walked into the nursing home….where Barb and George Poulo had spent so many hours with Beverly-everly….a nurse said with a smile,
“You just missed her!”
(Just missed her…..what did she walk out the back door again??)
When we walked into her room, she was still warm…..but I didn’t recognize her. Her body had been through so much the past few years. And Barb collapsed on my shoulder and cried and sobbed….and everthing was happening too fast for me. I didn’t even understand that she was dead. And once again….I couldn’t cry for someone I loved who had died.

I don’t want to remember Beverly that way. She will always be a perky, adventurous little girl with short brown hair…big big brown eyes….in pajammas…..waking me up on a wonderful Saturday morning to watch cartoons…..while everyone else slept. And she made me a bowl of cereal. And we are laughing and laughing at the stupid black and white cartoons…of mice chasing cats and crazy music….and…I just miss her so very much……Beverly-everly.

This is that damn never-ending cycle of life and death that you were talking about George. How long ago has she passed? It will always seem like yesterday with your parents and siblings. She was a very pretty woman. I bet she makes a darn good angel, George.

  2. george, here’s one i bet you don’t remember, my dad, your uncle j b jones sent me me to go sit in the car, witch was parked in the driveway at 121 whitman. mom and dad where in the house playing cards or something with uncle george and aunt jeni’s i sat in the back seat of the car reading comics in no time beverly, you, gregory and of course glen where all in the car the doors of my dads brand new 64 impala convertible open wide. someone pulled the gear shift and the car began to roll down the driveway, me in the back seat bev in the back seat and all the you guys bailed out. i just got the passenger door shut before it hit the fence post and turned to see beverly dive out the drivers door, just missing getting pined between door and other fence post. the door was ripped clean off and my dad was hot, of course it was my fault. though i’m pretty sure it was glen(of course) although to this day i’m unsure. bring anything back? rip bev, my heart truely morns. jaybird.

I remember this like it was yesterday. Dennis and Gregory were in the front seat. I was in the back seat leaning over into the front seat watching them Dennis put the car in neutral. The question is WHY DID we all panic??? We were jumping out of the car like it was going off a cliff for Chriss Sakes. It was a disaster. I never saw Bev or anybody for that matter in SO MUCH PAIN…I don’t know why she was never taken to the hospital.
I don’t remember it being an Impala though, I thought it was a station wagon but I could be wrong. I also remember you mother tying the door back on, where it remained for a very long time…..Yeah, Beverlys death was a tough one. My mom died a year later but she defended Beverly (she was one of her huge favorites) to the very end. You were either her favorite or you weren’t. I wasn’t but I could have been if I had submitted to her drunken desires.

Talked to Diane…seems like aunt Geraldine is doing fine. I am happy to hear that.

My boss just got back from Nevada and is ready to rent a place out. Not really sure when I will be going out there to train the new manager but I will let you know. I will be staying in a hotel with my boss and another guy but hope to extend my visit into the weekend and fly home a bit later then my coworkers so that I can visit you guys.

    talk soon
    Butch
