What are the real issues my fellow Americans? Look around your everyday life. Be extra observant. Do you read the newspapers and watch the news?
What bothers you the most? Health care? The cost of gasoline?
What I obsereved yesterday:
I woke up and went to a Super Market. I picked up a few things and waited patiently in the “10 items or less” line while the gentleman ahead of me checked out 33 items. (I counted) But I had the luxury of actually watching TV while I was waiting in line. Although it seemed to be all commericials, like most TV, I was immediatly sucked into it’s power.
“Next.”
“Sir, next”
“Your NEXT”
Oh, sorry, I was watching tv.
On my way to the Gym after the Super Market I was stopped at a red light next to a van and looked over. There was a TV playing in the back of the van. I was trying to make out what it was.
The Little Mermaid, maybe, mmmm, something with cartoon fishes…maybe..
HONK HONK
Green light.
At the Gym now, on a “sanitary” bike (more about that much later) and on the wall in front of me…..a TV. Well, I had to admit this was actually helpful. I did 7.3 miles and watched a homosexual designer completlely redo a couples garage of all things. Now it’s a liveable, blue, comfortable gargage complete with track lighting and fluffy pillows. I honestly don’t think I would have done 7.3 miles only because I was dying to see the expressions on the couples face when the designer opened up their garage door.
The woman was flabbergasted. The man was pissed off because he couldn’t find his tools.
Later that evening in Westfield I had something to eat at our fathers old fabric store on East Broad street. It is a pizza palour now. But while I ate (in the corner where dad used to keep huge rolls of burlap) I had the convience of watching “Everybody loves Raymond” only I had to read the subtitles because a Jack Johnson CD was playing in the background.
My point is this:
A person watches tv an average of 40 days per year.
Children spend 1,023 hours watching tv compared to 900 hours in school.
Most children will have witnessed 200,000 violent acts including 16,000 murders on tv before their 18th birthday.
Roughly 70% of all shows include sexual content with an average of 5 sexual based scenes or dialouge per hour.
If I were president there would be one day where you had to turn off ALL TVs. The secretary of state would pick a day out of a top hat. All the days of the week would be on a folded piece of paper.
Turn off your TV-NOW-just for one day.
Go for a walk instead.
Remove TVs from bedrooms, kitchens and cars.
Have your children look out the window when driving.
Avoid using TV as a reward-this only increases its power.
There are ALOT of great programs out there, I have to admit. History, travel, cooking, house repair/design, the Honeymooners (kidding)
I think this country has lost the most important vaule in living today, the family vaule. And it is getting worse. Divorces. Child abanonment. Murder. I don’t think I can blame this all on tv. But as president of the United States I am only asking for ONE day a week. You will be FORCED into doing something radical in your life. Like taking a walk, riding a bike, reading a book, dancing in the living room, or taking a hot bath.
Use your imagination America! My campaign is to bring back the family. Thank you. God bless. And……..vote for me.
