NY Giants colors light up empire state building.
There is no such thing as “perfeKt” !!!
New York City gets destroyed in “Cloverfield,” the silly-sounding monster movie that opens Friday. New York was destroyed in “Independence Day,” in “Escape from New York,” in “I Am Legend,” in “The Day After Tomorrow,” in “Planet of the Apes,” in “A.I.,” in “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow,” in the 1998 “Godzilla” remake, in all three King Kong movies, in the Tom Cruise movie version of “War of the Worlds,” in the radio version of “War of the Worlds” and now in the Godzilla-esque “Cloverfield.” How about a disaster movie that destroys Florida or Ohio?
I liked all these movies and most recently I saw “I am Legend” and was extremely impressed with the special effects. I think more than the plot….I am thinking “How the HELL did they do that?
When Joshua. Jonathan and I rent old movies to watch, I have managed to sneak in some old classics that I liked when I was a kid. For some reason it is a slight disappointment. It’s not like I remember it. Todays movies are so real and loud and ferocious that can we even imagine where they will be in 10 years from now? Right now I need a movie that is down to earth. That is real. That is romantic. That is safe. After “I am Legend”…I need real life…..

Christmas with the HoffmansThanks Joe, Belinda and Bella for a Christmas I will never forget.

While driving around once before Thanksgiving, I noticed Christmas lights. On the radio….Christmas music!!! BEFORE THANKSGIVING???
Why does the Christmas celebration start earlier every year? The commercial reasons are obvious; many retailers do a significant portion of their business during Christmastime, so the sooner the sleigh bells ring, the happier stores are.
There is a deeper reason Christmas starts earlier each year: We want to live in the Christmastime world, and this has nothing to do with religion. In the Christmastime world, children are happy, family is gathered round, and all the year’s exhausting and stressful overwork has at least led to a pile of presents. Candles are lighted, and we listen for a sound in the distance.
Christmastime also brings out the strongest positive memories of most people’s childhoods…of presents, singing, anticipation, and the adults forcing themselves to get along. The Christmas weeks are the time we believe all is right with the world, whether or not we actually go over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house. We want to enter the time of believing all is well, so every year we push up the start date.
At this time of year remember how blessed we are to be from such a BIG family. And how it has grown….and is still growing: Ann and her children, all our kids, Larry and Paul and their kids, the new kids on the block…Maddy, Becky, Britt and Bella! And our greatest blessing…..we are all resonably healthy. Merry Christmas

This is one of the last things left of Dads. These damn tickets. In 1972 I started going to Giant games at the ripe old age of 12. Thirty-five years later….I am still sitting in the same seats (well, 30 years at Giants stadium, 3 at Yale bowl and one at Yankee stadium) Approximatly 330 home games later I sit here with my 15 year old son. It is alot of heritage, history and memories. Some of the people that have gone to games with me, Mr Moran, Ed Deloreto, Frank and John Karst. beverly. barbara gary grant brenda, Gene Kaufman, John Morgan, Susan, Dan Braza, Erin, Mr Blackford, Chris Espeland, Marielle, Mom, Don Bok, Erin, Glenn Jr, Jo Ann, Buc Bahlman, and Roy Henderson to name a few.
I HAVE BEEN SITTING next to the alot of the same people for 30 years. They remember when I had a poney tail and beard and drank and flipped out over missed first downs.
On this particular beautiful sunny day they played the “other” NY team and won. Josh and I got to the parking lot at 9am and finally left around 9:30 pm. We had the grill going all day: pork roll, hotdogs, clams with garlic and drawn butter, hot wings, shrimp, steak and potatoe salad (made the way mom made it) As the sun went down and we began to launch fireworks into the orange sky….I realized how many hours of my life I have spent in this damn parking lot….between the Giants and the Grateful Dead…I have met so many people…and I am passing this heritage onward…in the glow of our little fire…..says Josh….”this is cool dad.”…..yeah this is cool.
